How to Choose the Right Size for Your Child

Measure first, compare with the size on the product, and leave a little room to grow without overdoing it.
Children grow quickly and every child grows differently, so the age written on a garment is only a starting point. Two children of the same age can need different sizes, and sizes can also vary a little from one design to another.
Measure your child. Use a soft tape measure and note the height, the chest and the waist. For trousers and skirts also note the length from the waist to the ankle. Measure over thin clothes, standing relaxed, and write the numbers down so you can compare them with the size information of each product.
Compare, do not guess. Look at the size options shown on the product, which may be given by age or by months for babies, and choose the one closest to your measurements. If your child is between two sizes, the larger one is usually the practical choice, because it lasts longer and is more comfortable.
Leave a little room, not a lot. A size that is slightly bigger gives room to grow and to wear a layer underneath, but clothes that are far too big can get in the way when a child runs, climbs or plays. For shoes, leave about a thumb's width in front of the longest toe and check that the shoe is not tight at the sides.
For babies, choose by months and remember that newborns need soft, easy-to-open clothes for quick changes.
